Success Comes from Your Network

We’re closing down the Private Practice Incubator for several reasons, one of which is more personal to me. I’ve been interested in the contemplative world for many years now, mostly of the Buddhist and Christian variety. As much as I loved the tasks, people, and impact of PPI, I keep feeling called to pursue work directly related to psychospiritual development.

Slow success via a really good network

A lot of our marketing efforts weren’t that successful in the short term. See Jordan’s side for more on that. The short story is that our efforts didn’t immediately produce many new consultees.

However, we kept having success. I kept thinking, “Wow, we’re sure getting lucky to have another person sign with us because it clearly wasn’t from our last week’s marketing campaign.” I realized as the months went on that this “luck” I was feeling was simply having a good local network that was built through months and years of content building on Jordan’s side, as well as local therapist connections we had both made via lunches, text threads, and just general curiosity about other therapists.

Most of our consultees came from random local connections—a friend would refer someone, our business would come up at a luncheon, or we’d bump into someone who had read Jordan’s blog for a few years. What this taught me is how tough it is to get someone random to sign up for a huge service like our coaching program. It’s way easier if they already knew us. And, when we would launch a round of marketing blogs, workshops, or emails, new clients didn’t come from that blast itself but the peripheral effect of being in the awareness of those that already trusted us.

It was top of mind for us in conversations, and it was top of mind for those that saw our offerings. This led to our services being talked about more and eventual interest building enough to reach out for an initial consultation.

Why we’re closing it down

In the past three years, I’ve (Paul) done 9 weeks of silent meditation retreat and another 4 weeks of intensive adult psychological development workshops. These experiences have really changed my life for good and have altered how I show up in my personal and professional life.

I feel a call to step into that work more directly and am letting go of PPI as part of that endeavor. Feel free to reach out if you have interest in learning more about what the world of contemplative, psychospiritual, and developmental growth looks like.
